Bio:
Prior to returning full-time to visual arts in the form of fine art painting, Ms. Kirkland enjoyed a 35+ year career in advertising and publishing, as an award-winning art director, illustrator, graphic designer and production manager. This lifelong involvement in art and design brings an artistic maturity to her artwork. As a Studio Art major at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, she studied illustration, painting in oil and acrylic, ceramic and metal sculpture, as well as theater set design and film language. Through professional work and independent study, Ms. Kirkland explored photography, digital media and film/video art direction and production. She earned an interior design degree in 2011, and enjoys decorative arts and crafts. Her recent body of work is of space-themed, abstract pointillist paintings, rendered in acrylic on canvas or linen. Ms. Kirkland produces her works, both with brushes and unconventional tools, detailing her compositions with thousands of colorful dots. Ms. Kirkland’s influences include: world-renowned 20th century pointillist painter Vance Kirkland; contemporary painter David S. Parker; and 19th century pointillist painters Georges Seurat, Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Signac.
