Bio:

Described as a “Renaissance Woman”, Laurie E. Tietjen possesses a wide range of talents, abilities, accomplishments, and interests. She has served as a state recognized teacher, a Certified Public Accountant and business consultant, a jazz musician, and visual artist. It is her talent in the visual arts that rises above the rest to provide that eternal footprint to be left on the world’s stage. Many works from art history have captured her eye, but her heart has been captured by the works of the Masters of Traditional Realism. Works from such artists as Andrew Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, John Singer Sargent, and Rembrandt, as well as the Photorealists, such as Ralph Goings, have long been the source for her own artistic enjoyment. These masters first capture your attention with their subject matter, then use lighting and color to tell a story. Their work continues to hold your attention as you explore the rendering of the image through the use of their precise technical expertise. In the end, one is left in awe of how a human hand can capture such beauty with such skill and precision! It is from this admiration and personal enjoyment that Laurie Tietjen has pursued the development of her talent. Like the masters of realism, her style is tight and precise, often with an emphasis on imagery that requires a high level of technical prowess and virtuosity to simulate, such as reflections in spectacular surfaces and the geometric rigor of man-made environs. She continuously looks for opportunities to embrace her reality in order to give it back to the viewer as a gift through the painting. Her current collection is inspired by the animals that she comes into daily contact with. She lives on a horse ranch on the Western Plains of America, the land where the noble Native American warrior roamed. She and her husband, a veterinarian by trade, share their home with six horses, three dogs, three cats, and a bird. Their pets, along with the neighboring wildlife, provide unending sources of inspiration and artistic opportunity in the beautiful setting of their home in the American West. Within a short year, work from her recent collection has been obtaining national and international exposure. Cleo Sleeping on the Bed, has entered the international art stage by winning a juried spot in the 44th Annual Watercolor West Juried Exhibition in Los Angeles, California, won a spot in the Kentucky Watercolor Society 2012 National Juried Exhibition, and also a spot in the Heartland Juried Artist Exhibition 2013. Pepper’s Tack won a spot in the Kansas Watercolor Society National Juried Exhibition 2012 and the Heartland Juried Artist Exhibition 2013. Also in 2012, from this collection, she was invited to join the prestigious International Guild of Realism. It is quite evident that in the world of contemporary artists, she is a quickly rising star. More of her work can be seen on her website: www.jazzponyart.com.
